History

EEA Fund Management was founded in August 2003 by Simon Shaw to manage UK equity portfolios and energy and environmental assets. Five years later the group has over $1.7 billion of assets under management.

The company manages three open ended investment funds now valued at over £130m in total.

The EEA UK Financials Fund is the largest of the funds and specialises in investing in those companies whose activities are predominantly associated with the financial services sector. The fund was ranked by Morningstar as the top performing UK equity fund in the financial services sector for 2006.

The EEA UK Equity Fund invests in a broad spectrum of equities quoted on the London Stock Exchange, from the biggest companies to the smallest, investing in whichever companies the fund managers see as offering value. Both funds were established in October 2003; the funds are rated by ARC and the management team is rated by Citywire.

On the back of the success of the two open ended funds EEA launched the
EEA Select Opportunities Fund in May 2004, an Isle of Man-based fund that has invested in a more concentrated portfolio of the team’s best ideas.

EEA has been involved in environmental asset management since its launch in 2003, through its mandate to act as investment adviser to the AIM listed Climate Exchange PLC. Climate Exchange raised £30m to finance the Chicago Climate Exchange and the European Climate Exchange, the leading regional exchanges for GHG emissions trading. Additionally, the vehicle has invested in biofuel and renewable energy ventures.

In 2005, EEA supported investment company Trading Emissions PLC (TEP) with its IPO and subsequent C share listing in May 2006, raising a total £310m for the company. Since 2005, EEA has acted as investment adviser to TEP, sourcing and structuring transactions and managing TEP’s investment portfolio.

Trading Emissions invests in projects around the world which reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and create tradable environmental commodities. EEA's Carbon & Environment team in London employs five of the most experienced individuals in the emerging global carbon market and has offices in China and Ireland. The team has built a number of strategic relationships with originators and other organisations around the world.

In November 2005, EEA Fund Management (Guernsey) Ltd (formerly EPIC Investment Partners (Guernsey) Ltd) launched the EEA Life Settlements Fund an "Alternative" asset solution that provides the opportunity to achieve attractive and consistent returns uncorrelated to traditional investment markets. Regulated in Guernsey and listed on the Channels Islands Stock Exchange (CISX), the fund aims to provide a minimum benchmark 8% annual net return to investors on a stable long term basis, with the prospect of total target net returns of 9-10% per annum.
